Policies
IMPORTANT: When booking equipment and/or facility use ... If you DO NOT see equipment and/or facility content, please contact your class instructor to be sure you have the proper permissions. In other words, if the item you need does not appear to be an option, contact your instructor.
Negligence Policy, Failure To Follow Procedures (FFP) As noted in the policies below, any production gear forgotten, lost, stolen, etc., will be reported to the coordinator and your instructor. Failure to return production equipment as taken will result in a hold on future production requests.
Students will be given three levels of FFP (detailed below)
- FFP 1 = Written warning sent via e-mail to student, instructor, and coordinator of the DPF.
- FFP 2 = Written report sent to student, instructor, and coordinator of the DPF. 30 days suspension of equipment and facilities requests.
- FFP 3 = Written report sent to student, instructor, and coordinator of the DPF. Indefinite suspension of equipment and facilities requests.
Students will receive 1 FFP strike per day equipment is not returned. For example, One day late return = FFP 1. Two days late return = FFP 2. Three days late return = FFP 3.
Equipment Pickup & Drop off Policies
- NO HOOT LOOT CARD, NO EQUIPMENT RENTAL. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- All students and DPF staff members will now be required to conduct a quality control check (walk through of the equipment requested) to ensure that all items are accounted for. This process will be followed for the pickup and drop off all production gear. Upon completion of the quality control check, students and DPF staff member will sign a signature page.
- Upon arrival student(s) will be presented with a printout of their equipment request. The student and DPF staff member will go through the equipment requested. After that, the student and DPF staff member will sign a document stating that the equipment was checked. This process will be done again when the equipment is brought back. That said, for student(s) returning equipment please leave yourself extra time for the DPF staff to check the equipment back in.
- Any production gear forgotten, lost, stolen, etc., will be reported to the coordinator and your instructor. Failure to return production equipment as taken will result in a hold on future production requests.
Equipment Booking Policies
- Students can reserve eligible equipment for a maximum of 5 hours and within DPF operating hours
- Extended or overnight reservations must be approved by the course instructor
- Reservations must be made at least 3 hours in advance of scheduled check out time
- Only 1 camera per checkout unless authorized by professor or site administrator
- Walk-in requests will not be guaranteed
- Walk-in requests will not begin until staff (university assistants/student workers) are actively working; typically week 3 of semester
- Given our limited resources, equipment is reserved only for class productions & class assignments. You MUST be actively enrolled in a CMS production class to request and use equipment (includes but not limited to ... cameras, audio gear, lights, etc.) If you are not enrolled in a CMS Production course that is actively using equipment, then the request will not be fulfilled.
- If you are a CMS student not enrolled in a CMS Production course and are requesting equipment, please contact the DPF coordinator, Jason Forsyth: Forsythj1@southernct.edu
- CMS students not enrolled in a CMS Production course requesting a camera may request a Sony ZV1.
Facility Booking Policies
- Students can reserve eligible facility spaces for a maximum of 4 hours and within DPF operating hours
- Extended reservations must be approved by the course instructor
- Reservations must be made 3 hours in advance of scheduled check out time
- Walk-in requests will not be guaranteed
- Walk-in requests will not begin until staff (university assistants/student workers) are actively working; typically week 3 of semester
- PLEASE REMEMBER ... the studio floor & control room are used for class. As a result, the studio floor & control room will be unavailable during class times. Please check the semester schedule for more details or stop by the DPF for more information.
- Given our limited resources, the facilities, i.e., edit suites are reserved only for class productions & class assignments. You MUST be actively enrolled in a CMS production class to request and use the facility (includes but not limited to ... edit suites, studio floor, control room, etc.)
- If you are a CMS student not enrolled in CMS Production course and are interested in using the facilities, please contact the DPF coordinator, Jason Forsyth: Forsythj1@southernct.edu
Check Out Policies
- Students are required to provide their SCSU ID to check out equipment or use the facilities
- Equipment will only be provided to the student making the reservation
- Students should inspect/check out equipment and report any issues to staff before leaving the facility
- Course instructors will be notified of all "no show" reservations
- Students using the facilities (edit suite, studio floor, control room) MUST sign in upon arrival
- Call the DPF front desk (203) 392-5394 with any issues regarding check out time. Any reservations not checked out within 30 minutes of the reservation time will be cancelled
Return Policies
- All equipment should be properly packed prior to return and returned by the expected time (see info below). Instructors will be notified of any issues
- Students are expected to be present until all items are checked in and report any issues with the equipment
- Monday through Thursday ... End of day returns (8pm) are expected back no later than 7:50pm
- ON FRIDAY'S ... End of day returns are expected back no later than 4:50pm, as the studio closes at 5:00pm.
- Course instructors will be notified of all late returns
- Extensions will only be granted with instructor approval

Podcast Studio & Producer's Room Booking Policies
- Our Podcast Studio & Producer's Room are strictly reserved for students enrolled in a CMS course that uses the rooms for instruction.
- Current members of SCSU TV/TV Club are premitted to utalize the Podcast Studio & Producer's Room if given proper training.
- If you are a current member of SCSU TV/TV Club interested in training, please contact Jason Forsyth or Michael Bay.
- Podcast Studio & Producer's Room must be booked together.
- Maximum reservation time is 1 hour.
- Must provide a properly trained producer (a currently enrolled/matriculated CMS student or memeber of SCSU TV/TV Club that has been trained.)
- Must submit a rundown for the show that is timed no longer than an hour.
- Users of the Podcast Studio & Producer's Room are responsible & liable for any damage done during reservation.
